Rio Paging enables
the Corporate user to send Alphanumeric (text) and Numeric pages
from their desktop. The user can maintain their own personal Address
Book and access Departmental and Corporate Address books. The
system can repeat pages until they are acknowledged and escalate
pages which are not acknowledged. Many other facilities are offered.
Rio Paging provides the System Manager with a robust client-server
architecture which will not fail even if one or more routes to
the Paging Service Provider should fail. Pages can be sent over
Dial-UP, Leased Line or Internet connections using TAP and /or
SNPP protocols.
In order to operate a Rio Paging system, the System Manager must
first configure the Server. Once that is done individual Users
can install the client software on their computers and send pages.
The installation and configuration of the Server is described
first followed by the installation and configuration of a client
computer.

The Infolink Receiver
must be connected to a serial port on the Server. The Infolink
Receiver is supplied with a special cable. Connect the 9-pin DIN
plug on one of the cable to the 9-pin socket on the Infolink receiver.
The socket is marked "DTE". Connect the other end of
the cable to a free serial port on the Server. The cable has both
9-pin and 25-pin connectors and you can use either to connect
to the COM port.
Make a note of the COM port that you have plugged the Infolink
Receiver into. This will probably be COM1 or COM2. After you have
installed the Rio Paging Server software you will need to tell
it which port you have connected the Infolink Receiver to.
Position the Infolink Receiver as far as possible, and at least
1 metre away, from any monitor or computer.

the Server Software |

If you are installing on NT ensure that you have downloaded
and installed Service Pack 5 from http://download.microsoft.com/msdownload/sp5/x86/en/sp5I386.exe
Whether you are using Windows 98 or NT for the Rio Server,
download and install dataacc.exe from http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/downloadDetails/dataacc.htm.
Be sure to restart your computer after installing this program.
Then install the Rio Software. On NT, login as the System Administrator.
On Windows 95/98, login normally.
The Server Program is provided as a single file called pagelinksvr.exe.
Run this program. Install Shield will guide you through the
installation process. By default it will automatically copy
files to both of these directories.
C:\Program Files\Connection Software\Rio Paging\Server
C:\Program Files\Connection Software\Rio Paging\Database
Be sure to restart your computer after installing this program.
Run the server. Don't worry if you get the message "Infolink
receiver not found" at this stage.
