SMS related acronyms and abbreviations

Application Programmer Interface. A clearly defined
interface
by which an application program accesses our services. |
| CDR |
Call Data Records. Every SMS message passing through
our system is recorded together with information about
who sent the message and whether or not it was delivered
etc. These records are called Call Data Records. |
| HLR |
Home Location Register. When a mobile phone "roams"
from one Network Operator to another there has to be
one place that knows where in the world your phone currently
is. This database is maintained by your original Network
Operator and is called the Home Location Register. The
HLR is also used when a number is ported from one Network
Operator to another. We normally use suppliers who check
the relevant HLR to ensure that messages are delivered
via the correct MNO but we also have direct access to
several MNO's HLRs. |
| MNO |
Mobile Network Operator. An MNO like Cingular, Orange
and Vodafone provide mobile phone services to their
customers. We are not an MNO. We connect to many
MNOs around the world and use their services to deliver
SMS and MMS content - potentially to well over a billion
handsets. |

Mobile Originated. An SMS or MMS message that was
originated on a Mobile phone |
| MT |
Mobile Terminated. An SMS or MMS message that was
terminated (sent to) a mobile phone. The message may
have originated from another mobile phone or from a
web page, PC or other fixed device. |
| OSE |
Operator SMS Exchange. A Connection Software service
that enables Mobile Network operators to establish full
two-way SMS service with networks that they do not have
interworking agreements with. |
